Varna, Bulgaria’s third
largest city, is situated to the north-east of the country on the Black Sea coast.
The resort of Golden Sands
is a few kilometres to
the north.
Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital city
is situated at the foot of
Mount Vitosha to the west
of the country.
Veliko Tarnovo, has been
built on a ridge above the Yantra River in the centre
of the country.
Bourgas, to the south east
of the country on the
Black Sea coast, is
Bulgaria’s largest port.
Bansko, to the south of
Sofia in the Pirin Mountain range, is Bulgaria’s
premier ski resort.
Borovets, south of Sofia
in the Rila Mountains
is Bulgaria’s oldest
ski resort.
Nessebar, is built on a
rocky island to the north
of Bourgas on the southern Black Sea coast. The resort of Sunny Beach is close by.
Sozopol, a picturesque town
to the south of Bourgas.
Pamporovo, one of
Bulgaria’s ski resorts is in
the Rodopi mountains to
the south east of Sofia.
Balchik, to the north of
Varna, boasts as its main attraction the
Summer Palace of
Queen Marie.
